Sunset Sailing? Not Sailing At All!

Does anyone use the sails anymore?

I have sailed since I was a very small young fellow. My dad gave me the opportunity to learn to sail with a 9 ft Boston Whaler Pram. It was a learning experience as I was given the whaler and the sail and little instruction. Just go get wet!

No Motor, No icemaker... Just a boat and the wind...

I learned lessons with that experience which stood the test of time. The lessons that very cute little boat provided helped me through out my lifetime at sea.

Now I wonder if anyone actually uses the sails anymore?

I see so many sailboats motoring their way through life and I wonder why the owners bought a sailing vessel in the first place? Is it a dream, and ideal, or just politically correct?

To me, owning a sailing vessel means you should learn to actually sail it. Not just sail it when the conditions are just right, but sail it when conditions are not perfect. A true sailor know his limitations but he also know what he can do.

Without practice, how will you know?

Next time you go down to the sea in your little ship...

Try sailing it
out of the marina and into the wild sea...

Then sail it back to your
slip...

What a proud day that would be!
